Agriculture plays an important role in the life of mankindfrom early civilization. It was the key development in the rise of sedentaryhuman civilization, whereby farming of domesticated species created food surplusesthat nurtured the development of civilization. It gained modernization with thepassage of time. Modern agricultural practices are increasingly turning out tobe knowledge-based and hence gaining expertise in them is exceedinglyimportant. Industrial agriculture based on large-scale monoculture farming hasnow become the dominant agricultural methodology. School of Agricultureestablished in 2014 offers Undergraduate, Post-graduate & Doctoral programmesin Agriculture. After going through common and elective courses in Agricultureduring the degree programme, we have in the undergraduate course curriculum, anexposure of the students in complete rural settings where the students will goand live along with farm families in the villages and have the first-handexperience of their living, agricultural practices, difficulties andexpectations. Students will be attached to an agriculture-based industry toacquaint themselves with post-harvest processing of agriculture produce andlink agriculture production with industry. The student shall also be registeredfor opting for two modules for skill development and entrepreneurship.

The school has highly qualified teachers, well-equippedlaboratories, classrooms and well laid out terraced student’s farm representingtypical hilly terrain. Occasional snowfall during the winter adds to the beautyof the university campus and places it at a location that is marginal totemperate as well as sub-tropical agro climatic conditions, thus enablingteaching and research under both the situations.

Along with different agriculturalpractices, students were also made familiar with some importantexperimentations like I) collection and preservation of soil samples, II)preparation of vermicompost units in a university farm field andbioformulations of Zero Budget Natural Farming Like Beejamrit, Ghanjeevamrit,Agniaster, Bhramaster, Neemaster).
